Commissioning bespoke furniture - turning a requirement
into an idea, an idea into a design then a design into a
finished piece - is a fascinating process for both
client and maker.
You might
expect furniture designed specially for you would cost
far more than 'off-the-shelf' productions but comparing
like for like in quality, it is surprising how similar
prices can be. However, dealing directly with a
designer-maker means that your investment will go where
you want it to - into the design, the workmanship and
the materials, not into the overheads of intermediaries.
As a guide, some small tables can be made for about
eight hundred pounds and jewellery boxes from around two
hundred pounds. |

Each
commission is different so an exact price is agreed when
the requirements have been discussed. The designer
produces a specification and, with that agreed, the
client pays a deposit. Materials are bought and while
timber is maturing, the details are worked out ready for
the hours of craftsmanship it takes to produce fine
furniture. The finished piece is delivered to the client
who pays the balance.
Bespoke
furniture designer makers and their clients need
patience as it takes time to design and build individual
furniture - normally several months. If you need
to meet a special date, we will agree this at the start. |
